The ride begins in...
25 years of pedal power
for kids with cancer
What started as one man’s idea on a road trip has become a 25-year legacy of passion, endurance, and community spirit raising over $8 million for kids with cancer.
In 1999, Sel Hardwick, driven by his family’s experience with cancer, jumped on a bike to make a difference. With his son by his side, the Townsville to Cairns Bike Ride was born.
From those early days of brainstorming in a bike shop to now seeing thousands of riders hit the road each year, this ride has always been about one thing: helping kids with cancer.
Every pedal stroke, every early morning training ride, every flat tyre, every kilometre, every effort, every challenging TCBR day - it all adds up to real impact for Children’s Cancer Institute.
This incredible journey wouldn’t be possible without the riders who push themselves year after year, the volunteers who keep everything running smoothly, and the support crews who keep the wheels turning - thank you to every single person who has been part of the ride,
This year’s 25th ride is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever, and we can’t wait to hit the road with you.
We're riding for kids with cancer
A life should be long. Every child should have the chance to grow up and grow old. To plan exciting futures, chase their dreams, and fulfil their potential.
But cancer cuts life short for too many. In Australia, over 1,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed each year, and three young lives are lost every week.
Children’s Cancer Institute is the only independent medical research institute in Australia wholly dedicated to childhood cancer. Everything they do is about helping more kids with cancer not only survive, but go on to live long, healthy lives.
It’s a complex challenge, but with world-leading researchers, cutting-edge technology, and global collaboration, we will cure every child of cancer. It’s not if, it’s when.
